4 years ago April 21st was our wedding day. We lucked out with absolutely gorgeous weather for late-April in Rochester, NY.
We celebrated by giong to one of favorite places - PF Changs! Our gift to each other were tickets to see (and be a part of) the LIVE show for WWE Monday Night Raw here in Raleigh (April 25th). Man, they did not disappoint. It was Rachel's first live Monday Night Raw experience; but not her first WWE experience. We had a blast...but we are definitely paying for it; it took a little more effort to roll out of bed this morning and Rachel has a bit of a sore throat. (But totally worth it!)
No real updates as far as the adoption process, just waiting to hear if our profile has been selected by a birth mother. Continuously in 'Wait Mode'.

Crazy weather...
First, let me say that we are both fine. The wicked storm systems (tornadoes included) that passed through NC on Saturday avoided us; we have no damage to our property or anything else.
Not so lucky were the towns/areas to the South of us...specifically Sanford (closer to Fayetteville) and downtown Raleigh. Tornadoes actually touched down in those areas and the destruction is overwhelming. Thoughts and prayers to all those affected.
Right after the tornado warnings, high winds and severe T-storms passed over us, it was sunny and 75 degrees. It was just like none of that ever happened. Weird.

Week filled with thanks!
1. Adam's adult hockey team made it to the playoffs...Adam scored 2 goals...YAY!
2. Buffalo Sabres made it into the playoffs...YAY!
3. A budget was passed and Rachel narrowly avoided an unpaid furlough with her federal government job...YAY!

First Potential Match
Late last week we received notice from our adoption facilitator that they had a birth mother that matched our criteria and that she would be viewing our profile (along with several others) and make a decision soon. She is due June 4th. She lives in CA. We sat on pins and needles the entire weekend; waiting, wishing, hoping and wondering if we would be selected.

Facts about Open Adoption

Here is a bit more of an explanation about the types of adoption:
Open: is an adoption with an ongoing relationship between the birthparents and adoptive family. This means that both parties have exchanged identifying information and have contact with each other either through letters, pictures, phone calls, or visits. The extent of communication in an open adoption is up to those involved.
Semi-Open: is one step down from open adoption regarding contact; the birthparents and adoptive parents meet. However, they do not exchange identifying information. There may be ongoing contact between the two parties, but it's typically less often, and it is facilitated through the agency.
Semi-Closed: allows the expectant parents to look through a number of "profiles" of couples that are waiting to adopt. All couples have been studied by Adoption Services, and are approved to legally adopt. The birthparents choose a couple to raise their child, but there is no contact, and no exchange of identifying information between the two parties. This option is often the choice of birthparents that desire confidentiality.
Closed: offers complete confidentiality. At no time is there any identifying information given to either the birthparents or the adoptive couple about each other. The birthparent allows Adoption Services to pick adoptive parents from their approved, waiting couples, and the baby will be placed with them.
