Quick Thoughts:
I don't think it matters if it is your first baby
or your tenth. There is something miraculous about being given the gift of a
child - through whatever means you are blessed to have one - and seeing them for
the first time. The responsibility, the enormity, fragility of it all meshes
together in that moment which is just about as sacred as any moment can get.
You know in that moment unconditional love - for this child has done nothing
to earn your love and will do nothing to lose your love - you love her just
because she exists and just because she is yours. And you know without a
doubt you will do whatever is in your power to do what is best for her. And you are humbled, amazed,
and grateful. Incredibly grateful.
Today, Daphne turns one year old. But, we're also celebrating getting to be her parents for an entire year. One year ago, we could never had imagined the funny, spunky, ever-happy girl you have become. We love you more than words can ever express, Daphne Jane. Thank you for an amazing first year!
We love all that she is learning and doing
and becoming, but selfishly want to keep her small enough to hold. We want to keep kissing
her smooshy cheeks and lifting her above our heads just to see that smile. Our sweet baby girl, our perfect surprise, getting bigger each day. We cannot imagine
our family without you.
We had a family birthday party the weekend before her actual birthday and she loved every second. We even think she realized it was her special day. Daphne enjoyed her personal birthday cake (Patty Cake as it is called from Harris Teeter), although she really didn't want much to do with it - she would poke at the frosting, and she even tasted it. But beyond that, she wasn't interested.
Enjoy the photos! Lots and lots of photos!
